BC’s Lower Columbia Regional Profile

Waneta Dam

Looking ahead, we anticipate another excellent year for business.

Our emerging metallurgical recycling cluster continues to divert end-of-life electronics from land fills for metals reclamation.

The construction industry is also finding new opportunities in our region due to increased interest in sustainability. LEED and Built Green certifications; water and energy-efficiency retrofits; brown field as well as green field developments – all are contributing to a healthy long term outlook.

The Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, located in Trail, is the centre of health care for 80,000 Kootenay residents. It directly employs 1000 medical specialists and support stuff, and acts as a catalyst for private health care service providers. The hospital is also a site for UBC’s Rural Family Medicine Residency Program and the Integrated Clinical Clerkship program; both which bring medical students to our region for their practice.
