So much snow, so many places to go… BC’s Lower Columbia region is part of British Columbia’s Powder Triangle—a narrow mountainous wedge in the southeastern corner of this province—that usually guarantees powder snow at least four times as high as an elephant’s eye.
Our local hill, Red Mountain Resort, receives 7.6 metres (25 feet) of annual snowfall and has 1,685 acres of skiable terrain. The wonderfully varied terrain and ski programs easily satisfy the whole family. You will find world class skiing without long lineups!
Equally spectacular and accessible are Nordic and Skate skiing trails. Local ski clubs offer over 100 kilometers (65 miles) of trails for all skill levels. Day passes and various membership types are available for each ski area. The clubs are family oriented and offer various facilities and ski programs for all ski levels throughout the season. Ski areas are within an hour drive.
The pristine wilderness, towering mountains and incredible “Kootenay Powder” provide some of the best back-country skiing and snowshoeing in the world. Along with cat-skiing, heli-skiing and guided tours, these powder stashes and can be accessed by a variety of means to suit every pocketbook. To get the low-down on locations and conditions, you might want to talk to the locals who live and breathe skiing or try some of the friendly folk at the local sporting goods stores.
