This month, the new WorkBC office opened in downtown Trail across from the Riverfront Centre. The Kootenay Career Development Society (KCDS) was successful in securing the WorkBC contract to supply services to the Greater Trail Area for both employers and job seekers. KCDS has received a warm welcome to Trail from employers who are looking to fill much needed positions in local companies, and the industries needing employees are no longer just mining and forestry. According to Jocelyn Carver, Executive Director of KCDS, hospitality, tourism, trades, education, and the medical profession are all sectors in the area which are in need of staff.
She explains “What we are seeing in the labour market is lots of retirement and actually not enough people moving into those sectors to fill the job openings that are going to be there, so there is real opportunity both in recreation and tourism and in health services in the community.”
For job-seekers and employers alike, KCDS will be providing resources to help make matches between local skilled workers and local businesses to meet everyone’s needs. Next month, KCDS will be hosting an open house to introduce their staff and services to the public and the business community.
