Physicians, dentists and pharmacies are available in BC’s Lower Columbia municipalities with the main concentration of specialists, physicians and health services located in the City of Trail. A wide variety of alternative or complementary health care is also available locally.
The Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital is located in Trail and operates as the centre of health care for the region. KBRH serves 80,000 West Kootenay residents and has approximately 70 physicians (family practitioners and specialists). KBRH Services include a 24-hour emergency unit and a medivac heliport is available for emergency air transport.
Trail Family and Individual Resource Centre (FAIR) has offered free, confidential, professional services for community members since 1977. FAIR offers a wide range of programs, support services, resources and information including pregnancy outreach, children’s programs, regional mental health and addictions advocacy service, violence and abuse counseling, a transition house, second stage housing, and a regional 24/7 crisis line service.
FAIR maintains the region’s Community Service Directory, a searchable resource of community service organizations and programs.
The Early Childhood & Family Support Services offers assistance and guidance to anyone seeking information on child care and parenting issues. Services also include child care referral service, a toy lending library, caregiver registry, educational workshops and drop-in playgroups in a caring, supportive environment.
